Eastern Province Governor Anuradha Yahampath initiated a programme to cultivate Aloe Vera as a Home Garden Project at the Irakkamam Divisional Secretariat in September last year with villagers from seven Divisional Secretariat areas.
Twenty farmers from each Divisional Secretariat participated in Aloe Vera cultivation.
Project Director and Coordinator Aazath M. Aliyar detailed the project at a recent press briefing and said the project would provide jobs for low income earners thereby uplifting their living standards.
