Regional industrial parks development programme is implemented by the Ministry of Industries with the objective of promoting regional level production industries.
Accordingly, it has been planned to initiate a new development zone within a portion of land in extent 200 acres centering Charlie Mount Watte /Hallala Watte in the divisional secretariat division of Welipitiya aiming at the industries within the district of Matara parallel to the infrastructure facilities development projects that have been performed throughout the recent times within the Southern province.
Accordingly, considering the proposal furnished by the Minister of Industries, the Cabinet of Ministers granted policy approval to the proposal subject to the implementation of the said project and to utilize portions of non – irrigable lands that are not used from this estate belong to Land Reformation Commission for the said project as well as other pioneering projects recognized for the development of this area without disturbing and economic agricultural activities.
