SJB Parliamentarian Bathiudeen’s wife & 3 others remanded till 09 August

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today ordered the exhumation of the body of the 16-year-old female domestic worker who had died while being employed at Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen’s Colombo residence.

The Court issued the order in order to conduct a fresh postmortem examination into the death.

Meanwhile, the wife of MP Bathiudeen, her father and brother, and the broker who had brought the victim for employment to Colombo have been remanded.

They were remanded until the 09th of August after being produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today.

The 16-year-old female victim had died this month after being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital with severe burn injuries.

The postmortem examination conducted following the incident had revealed that the victim had been sexually abused for a long period of time.

Following multiple investigations conducted into the incident, the wife of MP Bathiudeen, her father and brother, and the broker who had brought the victim for employment to the residence were arrested in connection to the death.

Further investigations had revealed that another 22-year-old girl who had been employed at the same house prior to the victim had also been sexually abused by the brother-in-law of MP Bathiudeen.

The Borella Police, along with several other Police Units, have recorded 36 statements so far in connection to the death of the 16-year-old girl from Diyagama.
